Welcome cookie and bike lovers! As you might have heard, 2016 will be my last year racing as a professional, so this ride has become an impromptu “retirement party”. I’m excited to have you with me and we enjoy my favorite roads, views, cookies, and coffee. We’ve worked hard to make sure it’s the best day you’ve ever had on a bike, all to support City of Hope, an amazing cancer hospital and research center. Please read through everything here, but most importantly, ride safe, have fun, and don’t spoil the party!

Course Notes & Safety Briefing from Phil Gaimon
Ride Safely by Phil Gaimon
Urgent! One more note from Phil to be careful this weekend. I know you’re tired of hearing it everywhere in general, but I’ve been losing sleep with the fear that someone will get hurt on my ride. We’re putting out lots of warning signs, but I have to beg you all to be careful. The roads are open, surfers don’t always look before they open their doors on PCH, and some of the descents are FAST and TRICKY. Please don’t race each other, follow the rules of the road, have fun, but don’t have too much fun going down the hills. The only hospital visits should be from a tummy-ache or a sugar coma, after too many tasty treats.
Course Signage, Route Preparation & Ride Rules
Follow all Rules of the Road. No Exceptions. CHP and local agencies will be located at strategic intersections to support a smooth ride and help with traffic control. Roads are NOT closed. Share the road and be conscious of all communities you roll through. Helmets are required, don’t show up without one.
While we’ve hired the very best to mark the routes, it’s still important to do the proper review of your selected ride. Here are a few tips and tricks:
· Download the GPX files and upload to your GPS enabled devices for accurate turn-by-turn directions.
· Study the Course Maps & Cue Cards available to you at Early Rider Pick-Up & Registration.
· At the very least, know where the Climbs and Aid Stations are located along your route.
· Malibu Gran Cookie Dough has brought ProTour Routing & Signs teams to ensure routes are marked according to WorldTour standards. Every turn will have a set of (4) Course Arrows, here’s the order:
• (1) Single Arrow placed approx. 100 - 200 yards ahead of turn to alert you.
• (2) Double Arrow placed at your turn
• (1) Single Straight Arrow placed after the turn to confirm
Sugar Cookie Ride
The Sugar Cookie is our shortest route, but don't think it'll be easy. It starts up Potrero Road: where you'll pray around every turn that the climb will be over. Cruise along the top of Sycamore Canyon and the quiet horse farms of Hidden Valley, and then you'll face the short climb up Decker Canyon from Westlake. Survive that, and you've earned a fun descent down Mulholland Highway to the Pacific, and a flat run to the finish.
• Distance: 46.2 miles
• Climbs: 2
• Rest Stops: 1
• Elevation: 3,284 ft
• Difficulty Rating: 4.2/10
Chocolate Chip Ride
The Chocolate Chip is our most popular ride. Experience the best that Southern California has to offer, with a total of four climbs, and an optional fifth on the unpaved Sycamore Canyon if you're still feeling ambitious. This is a serious route with serious altitude gain, not for beginners.
• Distance: 87.0 mi
• Climbs/Timed: 4 / 2
• Rest Stops: 3
• Elev. Gain: 8,661 ft
• Difficulty Rating: 6.5/10
Double Fudge Ride
The Double Fudge, nearly crazy by all measurable standards. This route will test your endurance, climbing legs and will power. Select this route and you'll get a glimpse into a Pro Tour stage race. Designed by Phil himself, survive this route and you'll have something to brag about. Don't sign up if you're not sure you can do it. This route is serious, and the Chocolate Chip is plenty hard enough. #earnyourcookies
• Distance: 117.6 mi
• Climbs/Timed: 6/3
• Rest Stops: 4
• Elev Gain: 12,456 ft
